Album: Aerorider
The Aerorider is a hybrid, with pedals and electric drive. It is heavier than most velomobiles, but light enough to pedal without the electric assist. There is a dealer in New Zealand now, but the North American dealership arrangements fell through. (Watch AeroRider's website to see if this changes). A September 2006 New York Times article on Dutch bicycling included a photo of an AeroRider, but identified it as a utility tricycle. North American customers should check their state and local laws to see whether and where they can ride this hybrid.

Album: Alligt Alleweder
Alligt Alleweder from Alligt in Dronten, NL, Lohmeyer Leichtfahrzeuge in Hennef, GER, and VelomobileUSA.
The original "All Weather Bike" -- the Alleweder, "all weather" in somewhat dated Dutch was first developed by Belgian engineer Bart Verhees in the mid 1980's. The Alligt (a word meaning "naturally" but also containing the phrase "all lying down" or "all recumbent") version superseded the earlier Verhees and Flevobike models.

Berkut trikes in Russia made a velomobile at one point, and one found its way to Canada. Joseph, who owned it for several years, gave me permission to post these photos. This may be the same velomobile seen on the Berkut history site.

Album: Cab-Bike
The Cab-Bike is built in Giessen, Germany. It is meant for all-weather riding and features a low-maintenance drivetrain with a Rohloff hub.
The bike-roof on the Cab-Bike is removable for warm-weather riding, but it's easier to just remove the side windows and slide down the windshield.

Album: Flevo Alleweder
The Flevo Alleweder, also called FAW, or Flevobike Alleweder, is an early version of the Alleweder. Many were produced from kits in Europe. They are available from VelomobileUSA.
Flevobike made the Alleweder as a kit. Some 500 of them were sold, and many are still in use in the Netherlands and elsewhere. The first series had a down-curved tail, and the second series had a longer tail.

Album: Go-one
The Go-one velomobile is manufactured in Straelen, Germany. This enclosed bike is available in its original carbon fiber version and as a fiberglass kit.
Long criticized for lack of luggage space, it recently acquired an optional luggage rack, and it has always been easily adapted to pull a trailer.

Album: Leiba
The most recent entry in the "bike with roof" category, the Leiba is a German-built all-weather velomobile that fits a wide range of rider sizes and is relatively inexpensive.
These photos are of the original Leiba, a fully-enclosed velomobile that is small, with an easy step-in entry, a good amount of luggage space, and a decidedly cute profile. It fits smaller riders than other velomobiles. The new Leitra Brise will be a head-out vehicle and is expected to be introduced in 2007.

Album: Leitra
While the other velomobiles in these albums are "descended" from the Alleweder, Carl-Georg Rasmussen's Leitra, is an earlier and distinct creation. As the first manufacturer to offer a commercial waterproof cover for a bicycle, Rasmussen built a light-weight rain cover or canopy onto a trike chassis rather than using the monocoque design favored by most later manufacturers.

Album: Limit
The Limit was also produced as the C-Alleweder (Carbon fiber Alleweder). First introduced in 1996, this velomobile was initially envisioned as a racing machine only, but a number of them were manufactured for sale and remain popular with their owners.

Album: Mango
The Mango is the shorter and less expensive little sister of the Quest velomobile. Its open wheel-wells allow give it a tighter turning radius. The trade-off for these practical advantages is that the Mango is somewhat slower. If you're actually looking for Rob English's 2-wheeled Mango HPV or the WMV-format film of his famous high-speed Mango crash, just follow the links. The Mango velomobile is from Velomobiel in the Netherlands and is also being produced by Harry Lieben at Go-Mango.
